THOSE walking along a Hereford street in the past week could have been forgiven for thinking a charity had come up with a nifty way of drumming up publicity.

This pillar box outside the offices of the city-based Little Princess Trust on Castle Street was pink for a short time, the same colour as the charity’s butterfly logo.

But the trust, which provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss through cancer treatment, said the box’s new colour was nothing to do with the charity.

Instead, the answer lay with Royal Mail, which said the reason the box was pink was actually much more mundane.

“The boxes in the area are being refurbished and the pink paint is the primer before the box is re-painted postbox red,” said Royal Mail spokesman, Val Bodden.
