A CRAFTSMAN who helped develop a new technique to build horse boxes in a flat pack form has received an award from The Princess Royal.

Jordan Fforde was awarded at the City and Guilds of London Institute’s annual Prince Philip Medal ceremony, which celebrates outstanding individuals and tutors.

He was recognised for his hard work and innovation while completing his Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering at Herefordshire and Ludlow College.

He received the award from Princess Anne, who is president of the institute, during a ceremony at St. James’s Palace in London.

Mr Fforde works in the engineering department at PRB Horseboxes, Leominster, and played a key role in developing a new technique to build horse boxes in a flat pack form.

He was selected by the Worshipful Company of Needlemakers, one of 16 livery companies who helped found the institute in 1878.

Geoff Lewis, the master of company, said: "Jordan has far exceeded both his and his employer’s expectations, and his dedication to his craft and willingness to innovate is truly inspirational.

"He is a glowing example of the aims and principles on which City and Guilds was founded. In such hands, the future of our industry looks very bright."
