Attack on Newent street sign "racially aggravated"
POLICE in Newent are appealing for information following a "racially aggravated incident" which led to a street sign bearing the Turkish flag being defaced.
The sign displaying the Turkish flag was on Church Street.
A police spokesman said: "The sign was vandalised with an offensive and crude image being stuck over the top of it."
It was so badly vandalised, the sign will have to be replaced.
Police believe the incident happened between 9am and 6pm on Friday May 6.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 116 of May 7.
