A NURSERY which was targeted by thieves earlier in the year has a new-look nature garden after businesses in Herefordshire banded together.

Hunderton Neighbourhood Nursery in South Wye, Hereford was overwhelmed by the community's support in February after thieves broke into an outside area and stole a number of toys.

Tesco visited the nursery at the time to donate toys and noticed an area which the nursery staff wanted to transform into a nature garden for the children.

Rachel Price, community champion from the Belmont store, worked with the Tesco in Bewell Street and the express shops in the city to set the wheels in motion.

She said: "It was just grass and dirt and the nursery said they wanted to do something with the space. It was really nice to see all the local companies come together and help to do it all."

Tesco staff helped create the garden in two days, along with nursery staff.

Tudors Hereford, Pontrilas Sawmills, Dobbies Garden Centre, J&R Recovery and Wickes all donated to the garden.

Donna Williams-Kirby, manager at the nursery, said: "This is the third nature garden we have had, for various reasons, and we are determined to keep this one.

"It is a nice, quiet area where children can come. It is not a place for them to run around but they can read books and plant seeds."

Store manager at Tesco Belmont, Matt Reason, said: "It has been an absolute pleasure to be involved with a local school to help put together a facility that will be great for the kids in the months and years to come."
