A BROMYARD schoolboy has won £250 worth of sporting equipment for his school, Brockhampton Primary, by having his eye on the ball.

Tristan Collins, aged ten, took part in a ‘Spot the Cricket Ball’ competition run by Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, who sponsor Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

The prize Tristan won also included a family ticket to the NatWest T20 Blast Finals day at Edgbaston.

It was first time lucky for Tristan, who has autism and dyspraxia and finds it hard to join in competitions.

His mum, Jenny Collins said: “Tristan has never entered a competition before and was over the moon to have won. "We are all thrilled for him, his two brothers and sister were so excited, and we hope this will be the confidence boost he needs to participate in more competitions and events.”

The competition was run in over 160 Scrivens branches across the country, as part of a ‘You Can’t See The Signs’ campaign to highlight the importance of eye checks in children.

Scrivens Opticians marketing manager, Martin Elwell said: “We recognise the importance of regular eye checks for young people, because having correct vision is key to a child’s learning.”

The money will go towards a new team kit.

Deputy head Alan McLaren said: “It was a lovely surprise when Tristan told us of his achievement. As a school we see sport as central to our pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing, as well as giving them an opportunity to develop discipline and team skills.

“We are grateful to Scrivens Opticians for their kind donation, which will help us build on the breadth of sports we offer our children. I’ve asked Tristan what he would like us to spend the money on and he’s suggested a school branded football strip, which we will definitely purchase.”

Scrivens Opticians has a branch on Broad Street, Bromyard and is a main shirt sponsor of Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
