Malvern Theatres has promoted an event featuring controversial media commentator Katie Hopkins - but now says it’s not happening.

It appeared the outspoken former Apprentice contestant would be bringing her live theatre tour to the town on October 17.

An ‘event’ was posted on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon (June 13) by Malvern Theatres featuring details of the show - and quickly attracted negative comments from users.

A commenter said: “Why oh why would you let that woman into your theatre? No thank you!”, with others commenting “What are you thinking?” and “Seriously”.

One person even questioned whether the Malvern Theatres Facebook page had been hacked.

The theatre now says the show is not happening, although it hasn’t explained why.

A spokesperson said: “Malvern Theatres no longer has a date for Katie Hopkins.”

Hopkins is known for her far-right views and in 2020 managed to get herself permanently suspended by Twitter for violating the social network’s hateful conduct policy.

She rose to fame in 2007 as a contestant on the third series of The Apprentice and later became a columnist for newspapers including The Sun and The Daily Mail.

Hopkins has also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, worked as a presenter on the talk radio station LBC and in 2021 joined UKIP.

The blurb for her theatre show, which had been posted on the Malvern Theatres website but appears to no longer be there, says: “Katie is the perfect night out if you want to laugh at the insanity of our lefty world… she’s not PC but totally LOL.

“Watch her mercilessly ridicule everyone from politicians to celebrities in this exclusive one night only show.”

A number of theatre dates announced last year as part of Hopkins’ ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ tour were cancelled after criticism online.

Venues including the Gatehouse Theatre in Salford, the Weymouth Pavilion and the Whitehall Theatre in Dundee pulled the show after facing a backlash from locals.

Other dates of Hopkins' upcoming tour still look to be going ahead, including shows in The Wirral, Blackpool, Blackburn, Port Talbot and Torquay.
