UPTON Town were knocked out of the Cheltenham Association League’s Senior Charity Cup second round 2-0 at Whaddon United after a poor first-half display.

The hosts started well and Town keeper Nick Blakeway was in good form with a point-blank range stop in the first five minutes.

Blakeway saved again on 15 minutes before Whaddon had an effort ruled out for offside.

But Town did not make the most of the let-off against their Division One rivals and conceded a sloppy goal from a set-piece.

Whaddon went 2-0 up on 35 minutes after Upton failed to clear another set-play. Craig Kitchener had the visitors’ best effort of a poor first-half with a fierce volley from 10 yards well saved.

Town improved after the break and dominated for spells.

Half-time substitute Luan Gashi made the keeper work before Tom Crump had two free-kicks saved.

Simon Craddock saw a powerful effort tipped over before Kitchener’s effort was blocked on the line by his own team-mate.

Upton travel to mid-table rivals Falcons in the league tomorrow (2pm).

Meanwhile, Jamie Insall bagged a hat-trick as West Midlands League Division One leaders Bromyard Town beat struggling Penncroft 5-2.

Dorian Colling and substitute Dale Goddard were also on target for Town, who host mid-table Trysull at Delahay Meadow tomorrow (3pm).

Bromyard are six points ahead of Ludlow at the top.

Stuart Harvey netted twice as Powick Rangers won 2-0 at Bilbrook in Division Two.

Ninth-placed Powick head to Tipton Youth tomorrow (2pm), while title-chasing Malvern Under 21s entertain Newport Town (3pm).

Bromyard romped to a 5-2 win at Wellington Colts in the Herefordshire FA Burghill Cup quarter-finals.
