EASTNOR spokesman Malcolm Hughes feels the villagers must win both their games over the Bank Holiday if they are to stay in Birmingham and District Premier League Division Two.

After a fine 19-run win over high-fliers Penkridge, they travel to Stourbridge this weekend before hosting Brewood.

Both opponents have 149 points, 25 more than Eastnor, who prop up the table.

“We have got to win both games to stand any chance of staying up,” said Hughes.

“But we have opening bowler Shahid Ahmed back as well as our spinner Jabran Khalid and Tareq Jamil.

“It’s in our hands.”

After the Bank Holiday double-header, Eastnor entertain mid-table Shifnal and then head to Coventry and North Warwicks.

Rain meant Eastnor’s innings against Penkridge was stopped after 23 overs on 104-2 but they were ahead of the run-rate via the Duckworth-Lewis method, resulting in victory.

Penkridge had earlier hit 208-6 off 50 overs as Atiq Ur Rehman took 3-24 from 10 overs.

In reply, Suleyman Shah (8) and skipper Clive Chadhani (31) departed.

But a fine knock from Ur Rehman, with 37 not out at nearly a run-a-ball, and Shameer Ahmed (20) saw Eastnor go ahead of D/L before the rain came.

Meanwhile, Eastnor seconds won by 12 runs at Division Two South basement boys Kings Heath.

Sharafat Hussain (84) top-scored in their 259-9 from 50 overs before the hosts were bowled out for 247 with Mahaaz Ahmed claiming 3-40.
