DROITWICH Spa gave their hopes of winning promotion from Midland Football League Division Two a big boost after agreeing a ground-share deal with Bromyard Town for next season.

Spa will play at the Delahay Stadium in the 2016-17 season if they earn a place in Division One.

Currently in third place, two teams will go up at the end of the campaign.

The deal is for one season but can be extended for another year if needed while improvements are made to their King George’s Playing Fields base.

Spa have transformed from perennial relegation-battlers to title-challengers.

They are also in the finals of the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup and President’s Cup.

“The deadline for ground grading was March 31 and we knew it was important to have a deal in place in case we were promoted to Division One,” said chairman Pete Lemon.

“We’d like to thank Bromyard for their help and understanding what the club needed.

“This has been a brilliant season. Wayne Oliver and Mark Owen (managers) joined the club with a desire to increase the organisation and professionalism and they have done a great job.

“But everyone has worked incredibly hard to make this season the best in the club’s history, from the committee to everyone who gives their time. The players also deserve credit.”

Droitwich have applied to play in the FA Vase for the first time.

A brace for James Lemon and one goal for Max Crisp saw Spa win 3-1 at Chelsmley Town to book their place in the President’s Cup final against Alvis Sporting.

Spa visit lowly Knowle in the league on Saturday (3pm).
