WORCESTER Nomads returned to the top of Worcestershire Cricket League Division One with an emphatic eight-wicket home win over a below-par Burghill, Tillington and Weobley side.

Innocent Kaia scored 68 and Sam Roberts 54 not out for Nomads as they successfully chased down 173-7 in just 22.4 overs.

Previous leaders Colwall were only there for one week as they allowed visitors Bewdley to beat them despite 91 from Ben Butler and slipped three points behind.

Bewdley’s Simon Mauger crafted 104 in his side’s 260-5 at Stowe Lane.

Third-placed Hagley lost at Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social, who recorded their third win and closed up on the other teams near the foot of the table.

Stourport and Worcester benefitted the most as they jumped to third and fourth place respectively as a result of their wins.

Worcester won at Pedmore by 79 runs with Bryn Evans scoring 79 and Chris Steele 54, while Stourport beat Belbroughton by 42 runs.

Last season’s league player of the year Max Young burst back to form as he struck 138 not out.

His Droitwich Spa side climbed out of the relegation places with a seven-wicket win at Cookley after Jamen Rudd earlier scored 116no for the hosts.
