MALVERN Town manager Les Jones is feeling “very confident” ahead of tonight’s home game against local rivals Pegasus Juniors (7.45pm).

With an unbeaten West Midlands League Premier Division run stretching back to March last season, Jones’ confidence is understandable as Town look to keep a third successive clean sheet in the competition.

The tremendous run suffered an unfortunate blip as Malvern were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Rocester a few weeks ago.

However, this has focused attention on the league with Jones coy about Town’s chances of winning the title, stating “a third-place finish or higher would be great for us”.

Although facing a hectic fixture schedule with eight games in the first 28 days of the season, Malvern are simply hoping the squad of 19 can rotate enough to avoid any lasting injuries.

Jones said: “Manchester United wouldn’t have to deal with this fixture list but that’s West Midlands football for you.”

With only one confirmed player out tonight, as winger Sam Rathbone’s knee worries linger on, Malvern will be looking to continue their fantastic start to the season after Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Bilston Town Community.

Reece King, Dave Reynolds and Luke Corbett scored the goals.

Meanwhile, Westfields host Sporting Khalsa in the Midland League Premier Division tonight and Littleton entertain Bromsgrove Sporting in Division One (both 7.45pm).
